Job Description

Aurora SRL is looking for a Geospatial Analyst specialising in satellite applications to support research projects in Earth observation, environmental monitoring and spatial intelligence. This is a part-time, fixed-term position based in Roma, ideal for professionals who want to combine research activity with other commitments.

You will process and analyse satellite data from multiple platforms (Copernicus, commercial VHR), develop geospatial workflows and contribute to the delivery of actionable spatial intelligence products for research and institutional clients.

We are seeking someone with solid remote sensing skills and a passion for translating satellite data into meaningful insights.

Responsibilities
  • Process and analyse optical and SAR satellite imagery (Sentinel-1/2, Landsat, Planet, Pleiades)
  • Develop automated workflows for land cover classification, change detection and time-series analysis
  • Create geospatial products: thematic maps, monitoring dashboards and spatial statistics
  • Integrate satellite data with in-situ measurements, GIS layers and ancillary datasets
  • Perform accuracy assessment and validation of derived products
  • Contribute to technical reports, deliverables and scientific publications
  • Support proposal preparation with technical input on EO methodologies
  • Maintain data catalogues, processing logs and quality documentation
Must-have Requirements
  • Degree in Geomatics, Remote Sensing, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Physics or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with satellite data processing and geospatial analysis
  • Proficiency in remote sensing software: SNAP, ENVI, ERDAS or Google Earth Engine
  • Strong GIS skills: QGIS or ArcGIS Pro
  • Python programming for geospatial workflows (rasterio, geopandas, xarray, sentinelsat)
  • Knowledge of Copernicus data ecosystem and access platforms (Copernicus Data Space, CREODIAS)
  • Good English (B2+); Italian required
  • Structured and organised approach to data management
Nice-to-have Requirements
  • Experience with SAR interferometry (InSAR) or SAR polarimetry
  • Knowledge of machine learning for image classification (Random Forest, CNN, U-Net)
  • Familiarity with cloud computing for EO (Google Earth Engine, AWS, DIAS platforms)
  • Experience with LiDAR data processing or photogrammetry
  • Background in climate science, agriculture, urban monitoring or natural hazards
  • Published research or conference presentations in remote sensing
  • Experience with ESA or Copernicus-funded projects

  • Self-organised and able to manage workload effectively in a part-time arrangement
  • Good communicator who can present technical results clearly
  • Genuine interest in satellite technology and Earth observation
